How to Play Mini Word Search

lightbulb The Basics

Mini Word Search is a compact version of the classic Word Search, using a 7×7 grid with shorter words (3-6 letters). It's designed for a quick, satisfying puzzle session — perfect for a coffee break or a warm-up before tackling the full-size game.

Each puzzle has a theme (like "Pets", "Fruit", or "Sky") that ties all the hidden words together. The smaller grid means fewer distractions and faster solves, but the words are packed tightly so stay sharp.

touch_app Selecting Words

On desktop: Click on the first letter of a word and drag to the last letter, then release. A preview highlight follows your cursor so you can see which letters you're selecting.

On mobile: Touch the first letter and slide your finger to the last letter. The selection automatically snaps to the nearest straight line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.

If the letters match a hidden word (or its reverse), it's marked as found with a coloured marker highlight. Wrong selections simply disappear — no penalty.

Easy

4 short words, placed only horizontally and vertically. A gentle warm-up that takes under a minute.

Medium

5 words with diagonal directions added. The sweet spot for daily play.

5 words in all 8 directions. Backwards words in a small grid make this tricky.

Expert

6 words crammed into the 7×7 grid with all directions. Maximum density for a mini puzzle.

tips_and_updates Tips & Strategies

1. Scan the edges first. In a 7×7 grid, most words will start or end on the outer rows and columns — there's simply less room to hide in the centre.
2. Look for the first letter. With short words, finding the first letter and checking its neighbours is often faster than scanning for whole words.
3. Use the theme. Knowing the category narrows your mental search — if the theme is "Fruit", your brain will pattern-match faster for those letter combos.
4. Try backwards. On harder difficulties, words read in reverse. If you spot the ending letters of a word, try dragging in the opposite direction.
5. Speed comes with practice. Mini puzzles are ideal for building pattern recognition. Play one every day and watch your times drop.
